Rose Brook from Marian Bach phoned to say she had 'travellers' enquiring after any scrap metal Friday 29th January. She noted the registration of the Bedford type lorry with crane they were driving YH06DZY. Please be vigilant.                      30th Jan 2010

There have been several yard break-ins on the Wirral- one attempted theft of a trailer (saved by bulldog lock) in Thingwall and one actually taken from Irby last week. Some copper cabling was also taken from another yard in Thingwall. There have been several horses shot in their fields overnight recently in Landican, one poor horse was shot several times. They are being treated by the vet and the police are investigating as best they can. There was a pony shot in its field several weeks ago on the Chester High Road, also being treated by the vet.                                                                       Just want people to be aware there are some sick idiots on the prowl and report any suspicious behaviour.        Rachel   19/9/09

Look out for a 'Maroon' transit van with pictures on the side. Reg. 07 D 27239 - Irish man with short hair.  My friend had already warned me he'd been at her's the morning before. I'm sure if I hadn't been at home he'd have nosed around. He didn't get chance to speak as I the rang the police in frontof him at the gate.  I told him we all knew his reg. and the police were watching him.           Cathy   21/10/08

I’m not an East Clwyd member but  would be grateful if you could add this to your " tinkers " page.
We had a visit last from two Irish lads purporting to be selling power washers, they were driving a silver 4 x 4, I didn’t get the make but got the reg no PJ 07 PZW. I’ve contacted the police. We live just outside Denbigh. Could you alert everyone to be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police.
Thanks for your help       Pauline Humphreys  10/6/08

9 coloured cobs have been stolen from Cannock 2nd June and 5 from Lichfield the day before. White van and red landcruiser believed to have been seen in the area. Please be vigilant.

There have been 3 sightings of 2 suspicious men, with eastern european accents, photographing local horses. This could be a steal to order gang. The men have been seen at shows, events and even in a horse owner's field taking pictures. They have been seen in a white van reg N253XAJ and also in a red Landcruiser. Police are treating this as suspicious so please contact them urgently if you see anything.

Important!!
There are a group of Irish travellers going round casing places to steal horses especially the heavier cobby types and trailers . They approach you with the pretense of selling pressure washers and generators .They are even stealing animals belonging to other ( local ) travellers . They are believed to be a ruthless lot and have no regard for the law and quite dangerous .
We have been told that they are based around the Bolton area but are stealing from the Cheshire , Oswestry , Chirk / North Wales areas ( that we are aware of ) and have been asked to be vigilant of Irish plated cars/ vans. So please lock all your stuff away and keep them hidden , padlocks on your gates etc , anything that will deter them from stealing from you . All our animals and equipment are precious to us and we need to do all we can to protect them. Thanks

I have today received a visit from some irish guys trying to sell me a power washer. We are in St Asaph. Just to inform everyone.       Heather Shepherd       28/4/08

Apparently there is a white ford transit van registration N810 DKL doing the rounds locally where there are horses/stables! It may be that they are looking to steal riding tack and equipment. If you see this one hanging around or acting suspiciously it may be prudent to inform the police of its location.        13/3/08

On Sunday, 2nd March 2008 between 2.15pm & 5.15pm,  thieves stole 6 saddles and bridles from a small riding school near Ruthin whilst the owner was out on a hack.     Please take every precaution to prevent this happening to you.

Our yard was passed by a white van with gardening written on side. That night our quad and tools were stolen. They were retrieved from nearby, neighbours had motor bikes stolen.                  Lesley Sutherland      6/3/08

With regard to the "tinkers" who seem to be around at the moment, we also have had several visits from three men in a white van looking firstly for scrap, and then again for stabling, and lastly to buy puppies! Obviously keeping their options open! They have also approached a neighbour who has two heavy youngsters in a field with the offer to purchase them - perhaps they are honorable afterall?!!  Having said that, her stables were ransacked and valuable objects stolen. We are situated near to the back of Chester Zoo.                                         Lauren  Povey      6/3/08

White van man looking for scrap metal and eyeing up Marian Bach!!    Van number  BK51 NYP.  Rose   3/3/08

TINKERS  AGAIN.....Had a call yesterday from Maggie who said 2 girls in Rhuddlan had been approached by them in a white pickup and I was out riding this morning here in St Asaph and they came past me very slowly staring at Tomos but I didn't catch number as it was belting with rain and my specs needed wipers on!
They are around so beware and if you know of anyone that needs telling please do so, the more we are ahead of their game the better and hopefully they will go away and never come back.           Carol Bryce   24/2/08

TRAILER THEFTS >>>>>>>>                                                                                                             Two Ifor Williams trailers (one 505 and one 510, both blue and relatively new) were stolen from a yard in Barrow, near Chester on 10th January.  Both were locked at the hitch and had wheel locks fitted, which the thieves managed to break off.  Two trailers were also stolen from another yard nearby a couple of weeks before this.  Please be vigilant and think about how accessible your own trailer is.  Also, if you are offered a second-hand blue Ifor Williams trailer and are suspicious as to its origins, I would very much appreciate it if you noted down the unique identification number (etched onto the chassis) and passed it onto me via the riding club.  It's also a good idea to make your own trailer instantly identifiable in some way, for example by painting something onto the outside - apart from having a reversing mirror drilled onto the front, I now realise mine is identical to every other blue Ifor Williams on the road and therefore very difficult to recover!       Chrissy Stanley        12/1/08

I live in Llysfaen Colwyn Bay, I have just had 2 Irish males trying to sell me a power washer ( 1.40pm Monday 12th November), they were in a White transit type van reg  02-2C-2145. They were taking quite an interest in my stable yard. I have reported them to the Police and mine was the 2nd report, the first being off an off duty Police Officer this morning on the Rhuddlan Road, Abergele. Just thought you might like to let as many people as possible know.               Regards, Joan Wood            12/11/07

Hi All, just to let everyone know that there may be horse thieves up nr
Cyffylliog.
I came home last Weds 17th Oct to find my horses (particularly the foals) very
stressed and unusually nervous. It took me an hour to get to handle one of
my normally very trusting foal. Today I found a foal headcoller with a long
lunge line attached? Something we have not done nor would do with a young
foal. Fortunately we have put padlocks on all our gates so hopefully
something deterred them from making an easy escape. We have now installed
CCTV.  This may be something or nothing but I think it is worth mentioning
in case anyone else in the area has noticed something different about their
horses.            Wendy          24/10/07

Dear All,
FDRC Member Jessica Wright has been visited today by a smartly dressed Irish man in the metallic white van registration Metalic white van reg. number SA05 FCP, the same vehicle that visited Tremorfa stud. He was selling pressure washers, when this was refused he offered a generator. He was seen to be taking an interest in a pony grazing in the field. He was seen today at Twnan, Old Colwyn and Dolwen.
As before, take all precautions against theft possible at your premises, or livery yard.
Regards,  FDRC                 7/9/07

Hi everyone, Just and update on the Irish tinkers. Metalic white van reg.
number SA05 FCP called at Tremorfa stud at approx. 5 pm tonight (Tuseday).
Short stocky man, tidly dressed with Irish accent enquired about pressure washers. Had child aged 8/9 in the van.

Will be informing the police. Please pass information on to everyone else.
Menna         4/9/07

Irish man driving blue transit van turned up at Hendre Bach Farm, Abergele on Saturday evening, said he was selling pressure washers and generators - this alarmed me to say the least! I put a flea in his ear so to speak, and he drove off quite quickly! Managed to write down his reg LS54 WAU, (he had a likeness for Willy Tilly!), I remembered seeing a blue van that morning parked opposite the entrance of the farm. Thought it best let everyone know, I have informed the police. Horse thieves visited Dyfnog Stud                                          9/7/07

Just had phone call from Jenny Frost who in turn had been contacted by a lady in Dolwen near ABERGELE that Irish people had called at her cattery trying to sell pressure washers, she informed the Police.
I put the phone down and it rang immediately it was Kate Carmen who was at Pen-Y Pinc Colwyn Bay. White Transit van newish reg 07G G1554 Irish man on board had just called trying to sell pressure washers. Told Kate to inform the Police.                   Cheers, Jo                                                                           19/6/07

I believe - do you remember Molly from last year? If you access the
stolen horsewatch register you will see that a high percentage are
coloureds, any age, any breed, so be vigilant. Hope they don't spot
the 1 spot on Toms' belly - ha ha!
Jo - do you know if Dynog got their number this time?

I think it's time we set up a NE Wales Horsewatch group.
and a link to the UK Horsewatch site
http://www.ukhorsewatch.org.uk/

I think the way it works is that you need a web site to keep people
informed and the group develops strategies to prevent theft of horses,
trailers and tack, in connection with the local police force, as in
Homewatch schemes. The success of the Horsewatch group will depend on the
commitment of the horseowners in the group  to reduce their risk of
becoming a victim.

Here's how Shropshire do it
http://www.shropshirehorsewatch.co.uk/Welcome.html

Our website would be linked to the UK Horsewatch one so that if horses
move, they can be traced more easily. This is a link to the UK Horsewatch
site
http://www.ukhorsewatch.org.uk/

I shall get some more information  from the person who set up the
Shropshire group, which has only just started, as far as I know. I have
taken the liberty of replying to all of you, but it anyone doesn't want to
get further information on helping reduce horse theft in NE Wales, let me
know  and I'll cross you off the list. Conversely, if there is anyone else
that you think might want to be informed, please forward this to them and
tell them to let me have their name.

I am just off to chain up the coloured yearling and mare, well the yardgate at least. I'll be in touch when I've found out more about Horsewatch.
Catherine
