Equine Influenza Excerpt from the rule book:
Each horse must have a valid vaccination certificate, which undeniably relates to that horse, completed, signed and stamped on each line by a veterinary surgeon, who is not the owner of the animal. It must state that the horse has received 2 injections for primary vaccination against Equine Influenza given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart. (Only these first two injections must be given before a horse can compete). In addition a first booster injection must be given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the 2nd injection of the primary vaccination. Subsequently, booster injections must be given at intervals of not more than 1 year apart, commencing with the first booster injection.
None of these injections must have been given within the preceding 7 days, including the day of the competition or entry into the competition stables.

Horse Trials Championship. Despite the forecast rain it stayed dry and the sun shone on our team. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we were reduced to a team of 3, however all put in excellent performances. Sam Samson had to retire as Leo was unsound and feeling the hard ground but both Sarah Warner and Claire Harrison show jumped well, with Sarah going clear and Claire having the last fence down. The cross country although looked straightforward proved influential with Claire suffering a glance off at an angled combination. Sarah went clear and finished on her dressage score which meant that she finished second in her section by 0.5 points. Having completed the championships 7 times she still hasn't won...lets just hope she keeps going until she does! Well done everybody and I can't wait for next years championships! Pictures to follow.....

Congratulations to our dressage riders Huge congratulations to our riders who took part in the area dressage qualifier at Anglesley on the 11th July. We fielded 1 novice team, Emma Humphreys, Philippa Brooking, Claire Harrison and Cheryl Thomas and Mandy Peffers entered as an individual, riding a medium test. The novice team came 3rd (only losing out by one Point). Emma won her section, Claire came 3rd, Philippa 4th and Cheryl 6th. Mandy came 4th in her class. Well done to all for travelling so far and for representing the club so well, in what I hear was a long day. Many thanks must also go to the supporters and those who helped out on the day.

Congratulations to our Horse Trials riders at Kelsall. We fielded 2 individuals, Emma Humpreys and Alix Thomas and 1 team, Claire Harrison, Sam Sansom, Sarah Warner and Janet Freeman in the novice, and 1 individual in the open, Jess Williams. Everyone had a great day, even in the blistering heat, all came home safe and sound, and the novice team managed to come 2nd, only beaten by a 0.5 point. Hopefully that will qualify them for the Championships in August at Aston-Le-Walls. Again many thanks to our helpers and huge thanks to Sarah O'Brien for organising the teams and training.

Congratulations to Sandra Zachary and her horse George who won the Hunter Championship and Overall Ridden Champion at Caerwys Show last weekend. Well done Sandra, this is just the beginning.....

Show Jumping Championships – Lincoln 6 September 2008
Over the years I have often said to myself “I must be mad to be here!” After this weekend I am under no illusions, all horse people are barking mad! I left Wrexham at 4.30pm on Friday, having listened to severe weather warnings on the radio, for our 3 hour journey to Lincoln. At 9.30pm Kirsty and I arrived at Lincoln and were towed onto the car park, an ominous start! Thankfully the other team members, Tanya Jones with Thorn, Sam and Brent Sansom with Lady and Leo, had arrived earlier and we could quickly put Sam to bed and get a G&T. Saturday morning arrived grey but dry. We walked the course and were very pleased with the going; it was, surprisingly, just right. After we convinced ourselves that we were walking the Novice course and not the intermediate, we retired to prepare. The team finished the first round on 16 faults and were pleased how we had performed. Sadly the day was then doomed by an Irish lady overheard on her phone saying, “The weather here is lovely, the sun is shining!” Ten minutes later the heavens opened just as the second round began. What a difference from the first round. Poles, horses and riders were flying everywhere. After the second rider from each team had jumped, for safety reasons, the jumps were all moved to a new position, making the timing half an hour late. We all jumped well, but with poles down, stops and Sam losing a shoe at fence 5, the team ended up with a score of 55. At 5pm only the first round scores were up and the team decision was made, we weren’t going to be placed. The organizers were thanked, our commemorative rosettes were collected and, wet and weary we wound our way home. Out lorry was towed out and as we set off the sun shone. Thanks to the team and all our supporters for their camaraderie and esprit de corps, maybe next year the sun will shine!

Hunter Trials Results/Update: Sarah Warner finished 3rd in the open and the open team (Sarah, Claire, Alex and Janet) finished 2nd. Unfortunately our novice teams didn't get placed despite some fantastic rounds. Sam was equal 3rd with 0.8 of a time penalty, having gone over the optimum time and Lizzie was equal 5th with 0.8 of a time penalty having gone under the optimum time. That just goes to show how close the novice section was! The pairs was a fun class to watch. There were no dressing fences, the pair that won was the pair closest to the optimum time......which was......Janet and Charlotte (yippeeeee)! Sam and Hayley unfortunately didn't fair quite so well with Sam having a fall at the birch rails, but both horse and rider are fine, just feeling a little sore. So well done again, both Sarah and I thought you all did FAB and hope all of you are up for it next year!!!! Those who provided helpers please say a big THANK YOU, without them none of us would be able to compete. Sarah O'Brien
Congratulations to Tory and Mandy who came 5th at the Dressage To Music Championships last weekend, Well done!
Congratulations to Rosemary Price who came 3rd and Tori Cowx who came 5th in the Dressage To Music individual competition at Walford College Sunday 2nd September. Also to Tory and Mandy Peffers who achieved 1st place in the pairs to music class. Well done.
Congratulations to Sarah Bransby who represented the club at Lincoln on 9th September and was placed 18th in the Open Show Jumping Championships. Well done!
Area 20 Dressage On Sunday 12th August, the area dressage competition was held, having been cancelled previously due to the wet weather. Thankfully, this time the weather was fine and the event could take place. East Clwyd fielded 2 novice teams, an open team and a riding test team. The novice team made up of Diane Pugh, Meriel Millot and Nicola Ricketts came 3rd. The open team, consisting of Mandy Peffers, Janet Freeman and Rosemary Price were 2nd. All the members of the open team were 3rd in their arenas, Meriel was 4th in her arena with Diane Pugh being 6th. Well done to all who took part, it was a real achievement to be so highly placed having only 3 members in each team. Thanks also to the helpers who were stewards and writers, if we do not provide helpers we cannot compete.
Good luck from all at East Clwyd to Sarah Bransby, who is competing in the show jumping championships on the 8th and 9th of September.

We have had a lovely letter from Dale's family:
"Dear Pat & all riding club members, We would like to thank you all for the flowers, cards and kind words, especially Mr. Alan Jones who spoke on behalf of the club. We really appreciated it. We are sorry we were unable to speak to you all. So many people have told us how smart you were and that it was the very best tribute you could pay to Dale. Everyone was very generous a total of £1040 - quite a staggering amount, we were overwhelmed. Please accept this cheque for £520 to go towards a new set of jumps. The remainder is to go to the hospital. Once again we would like to thank all of you for your kindness and support at this time and to wish you all the very best of luck in the coming months. Yours most sincerely, Hilary, Alan, Alison and Lewis"

Letter of apology from BRC regarding the over-measurment of the whole XC course at Peterborough which was 500m over-stated for the novice hunter trial competition. At an optimum time of 450 mpm, this meant that the time for course was more than a minute over stated! Not surprised we had cause to complain. Janet

Hunter Trials Championships, Peterborogh, May 14th 2006
Congratulations to the Novice Hunter Trials Team Members. Janet, Charlotte and Cathy came 16th at the Championships at Peterborough. National Horse Tirals Championships 5/6 August 2005 . Offcurch Bury
Well we got there and did it! What a fantastic weekend. The novice team, Janet, Mandy, Ceri and Julie were on a mission. Ceri had been nominated as our reserve rider as Sandra was on holiday. Sarah had qualified as an individual in the open section
We all arrived on the Friday afternoon, (bar Sarah who had arrived earlier that morning as she had already completed her dressage on the Friday) and set up camp after settling the horses in the stables, which fortunately wasn't too far away from the parking/camping area. We were also fortunate enough to be able to ride the roads and tracks course so we ventured out while our helpers were erecting tents and BBQ's. What a fantastic estate.
Saturday morning brought the dressage element and each rider was in a separate arena. Not one of our horses had a bad test and the difference between 1st and 30th place was only a matter of 3 or 4 points. The showjumping however, had a mixed bag of fortune. Mandy and Janet went clear, Julie had a fence down and unfrotunately Ceri was eliminated as it was discovered later on that Wave had an underlying back problem which accounted for her discomfort and refusal to jump. Sarah was competing in her X/C element and came home clear.
Next morning brought the endurance/cross country disciplines for the novice team. Mandy;s horse, Lomond, had gone lame overnight and she decided to retire, nothing obvious but certainly uncomfortable. Wave was still sulking in her stable as she wasn't allowed to continue. Then it was Julie's turn. We were all buzzing. Roads and tracks posed no problem, steeplechase was a breeze and then the XC. The course was lovely, very inviting, nothing too big, but some were quite technical and required a good line and steady steering. Julie set off and then her luck went as at a jump with a tight turn immediately after, her and Lanette parted company. Fortunately she managed to remount and continue on her way only to have a run out 4 jumps from home. Later on it was my turn. Ginge was playing catch up all the way round the roads and tracks, walk was not on the agenda. The steeplecase was a big thrill. Full tilt over 6 hurdle-type obstacles over 1km within a time limit of 2 mins, we completed that in 1 min 42 secs, we were flying! The second R&T could be taken at a slower pace and I think Ginge had given up finding someone to tag onto. By the time we got to the 10 min box he was quite chilled. The vet passed us and our team got to work on checking boots, studs, washing us down and preparing us for the XC . I was soon back on board and we were off......what a fantastic feeling. We had 2 stops but what buzz. We completed the course safe and sound. Sarah had even better fortunes and completed her SJ course and finished an overall 4th in her arena.
The novice team obviously were not in any placings with only 2 riders left and individually we wern't in the ribbons either. But, what a high we were on. Just being able to compete, for me anyway, was just the best thrill. Fingers crossed for next year.
Also I must thank all our helpers who made the journey, Catherine, Neil and Richard, who were just excellent in the steeplechase and 10 min box, Barbara, Sharon, Andy and of course Geoff and the entourage. Huge thanks too to Tanya and Rob for actually volunteering and travelling all that way to cover our help place. Big thanks to everybody which helped to make it a splendid weekend all round.
Janet

Area 20 Horse Trials 19th June 2005 ........................ Posted: 24.6.05
This year the Area Horse Trials was at Llanymynech, near Oswestry. We were able to field 2 Novice teams and 2 individuals as well as an Open team and 2 individuals.
First I must say a big thank-you to all the helpers who came on the day to jump judge and commentate (Melina and Tory). If it was not for these kind people we would not be able to compete!
It was a very hot and humid day initially, but later there were storms, with torrential rain and thunder to boot. Everyone did fantastically. The Novice cross-country course was over the Intro course and the Open a mixture of Pre- Novice and Novice jumps. Teams in the novice consisted of a team with me, Janet, Julie and Sandra and the other novice team was Sharon, Ceri, Nicola and Peter. Our team were 2nd by 0.3 penalties so we have qualified for the Nationals which is a 2-D-E in August. Janet was 4th in her section as was I, and Sandra was an amazing 1st!! In the other team Ceri was 3rd in her section and Peter was 4th in his. Well done also to Rachel who as an individual on a young horse went really well and the prize of the day for the MOST penalty points goes to Andy who had about 190!! But, he did not get eliminated as he was expecting!!
In the Open the team was Sarah Warner, Sarah O’Brien, Sam and Alex. They came 2nd by 3 points and just missed qualifying for the Nationals!! Sarah W. was 3rd in the class so will go as an individual to the Championships and Sarah O was 6th. As an individual Gail did fab too. The other individual. Emma, unfortunately was not allowed to compete due to her horse being vaccinated within 7 days of the competition, how dissappointing.
Well done to all of you, and thanks for representing the club and good luck in August !
Committee ........................ Posted 19.5.05 Janet Freeman
We need more committee members please. The amount of events that we are putting on, it is becoming increasingly unfair to ask existing committee to give up riding themselves to supervise events. We do this out of the goodness of our hearts and although we do not ask for much in return it would be nice to ride more often than not. You do not neccessarily have to have a 'job' but to share the supervisory days would be a blessing.
As a added note.........help days is becoming a problem. Is it that much to ask you to give up half a day a YEAR ? I am personally very dissappointed by some members' attitudes when asked to give a little time back to the club they take so much out of. I guess it is up to you.....do you want a club or not? Do you want a wide diversity of disciplines to train at or not? If you can spare an extra help session, maybe if your horse is lame for example, then you will gain a free entry into a dressage or sj comp as a thankyou. Maybe if you think a 'buy-out' would be an idea, (this would have to be charged at £20 at the time of rejoining membership), then please leave your comments or other ideas on teh feedback page. We will always take any suggestions into consideration.

It was the weekend of Wilmslow Riding Club's One Day Events last weekend and they were invaded by ECRC members.... Saturday saw the Intermediate and Open classes and our club was supported by Mandy Peffers, Janet Freeman and Ceri Kennedy who came 2nd, 3rd and 8th respectively. Sunday saw the Starters and Novice classes and again a strong contingent from ECRC comprising of Michael Carter, Lucy Stuchbury, Steph Childs and Ruth Bowden (Kathryn's daughter). Well done to those who competed and hope to see you at Area.....there is no excuse now.....

It was the Hunter Trials Champs. this weekend in Peterborough. Mandy qualified last October with Village Vet's Lomond so Andy, Mandy and Hamish set off on the 5 hr journey to Peterborough. Lomond was stabled about 10 minutes away from the course so having settled him in they went to Grange Farm and settled themselves in. Good weather was forecast for the weekend so they didn't anticipate being kept awake half the night by a thunderstorm. Next morning, bright and early, they went to collect Lomond and brought him to the site. A busy morning followed, walking the course and keeping Hamish amused. Mandy was riding at 3.20 which meant it would be a long day and the long journey home with a 3 1/2 year old was a bit daunting. In spite of all this Mandy went clear and came 2nd. A fantastic achievement by anyones standard made even more so by the fact Mandy gave birth to Archie 3 and a half weeks ago!
